About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to providing high-quality healthcare to all New Zealanders, grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are focused on building an integrated health system that emphasizes partnership, equity, sustainability, and family-centered care. Our team is dedicated to training the next generation of world-class doctors.
About the Role
We are currently seeking Rheumatology Registrars for the 2026 training year in the Auckland, Waitemata, and Counties Manukau regions. As an Advanced Trainee in Rheumatology, you will work alongside experienced clinicians who are passionate about both patient care and the advancement of medical knowledge. Rheumatologists specialize in the diagnosis and management of diseases affecting joints, muscles, and bones, and are often involved in research across a variety of investigative opportunities.
The Medicine Registrar runs are six months in duration, after which you may rotate into a different specialty area. Detailed run descriptions for the 2025 training year can be found on the Auckland Doctors website.
About the Team/Service/Location
Auckland is frequently recognized as one of the most livable cities globally, renowned for its stunning natural landscapes, diverse culture, and vibrant entertainment scene. In our Auckland Region, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with senior clinicians who will provide you with exceptional supervision and mentorship.

About You
To be considered for the Advanced Training in Rheumatology, you should be an Advanced Trainee in Rheumatology, including those currently in training outside the Auckland Region. Applicants must have passed the FRACP written exam or be registered to sit the clinical exam for 2025. Only candidates who have passed the clinical exam and completed basic training will be offered these positions. If you are completing the exam later this year and do not pass, you will no longer be eligible for the advanced training position, but may be considered for a run allocation instead.
You must also be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, and we will provide support and assistance throughout this process. We also offer six-month allocations for those seeking Rheumatology experience as part of their general medicine or specialty training.
If you are a current Rheumatology Advanced Trainee and an employee in the Auckland region, please note that you do not need to apply through this job listing. You will have individual meetings with your specialty team. However, if you are a current RMO employee in the Auckland region seeking a six-month allocation or applying for advanced training in Rheumatology, you will need to formally submit an application.
