About the Role
We are currently seeking a Patient Support Security Worker for a casual position at Nelson Hospital. In this role, you will play a vital part in creating a welcoming and safe environment for our Emergency Department, Inpatient Mental Health Unit, and the Older Persons Mental Health Unit at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond.
As a Patient Support Security Worker, your responsibilities will include collaborating with our staff to meet the needs of patients and their whanau. This is a casual role, meaning there are no guaranteed hours. However, your availability will determine the number of shifts offered to you.

About the Team/Service/Location
Our team consists of 12 professionals across the Nelson/Marlborough region. Your focus will be on ensuring that individuals attending our Emergency Department and Mental Health services are supported in a safe, therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and well-being.

About You
As a successful Patient Support Security Worker, you will:
- Maintain a calm and rational demeanor in challenging situations
- Effectively de-escalate difficult scenarios
- Promote a safe and therapeutic atmosphere
- Relate well with patients and their visitors
- Collaborate closely with the clinical team and follow directives
Previous experience in security or a related field is preferred but not essential, as we provide training.
Additionally, you will possess:
- Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude toward patients and the public
- The ability to connect easily with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds
- The capacity to identify and report issues affecting patient welfare
- A good level of physical fitness and mobility
It is essential that candidates are eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid New Zealand visa at the time of application.
