About the Role We are currently seeking a Patient Support Security Worker for a casual position at Nelson Hospital. In this role, you will play a vital part in creating a welcoming and safe environment for our Emergency Department, Inpatient Mental Health Unit, and the Older Persons Mental Health Unit at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond. As a Patient Support Security Worker, your responsibilities will include collaborating with our staff to meet the needs of patients and their whanau. This is a casual role, meaning there are no guaranteed hours. However, your availability will determine the number of shifts offered to you. At Nelson Hospital, we recognize that our hospitals are here to help people, and it takes a dedicated team beyond just doctors and nurses to ensure everything runs smoothly. The presence of an exceptional Patient Support Security team is crucial, and we believe you could make a meaningful contribution to our efforts. About the Team/Service/Location Our team consists of 12 professionals across the Nelson/Marlborough region. Your focus will be on ensuring that individuals attending our Emergency Department and Mental Health services are supported in a safe, therapeutic environment that promotes recovery and well-being. About You As a successful Patient Support Security Worker, you will: - Maintain a calm and rational demeanor in challenging situations - Effectively de-escalate difficult scenarios - Promote a safe and therapeutic atmosphere - Relate well with patients and their visitors - Collaborate closely with the clinical team and follow directives Previous experience in security or a related field is preferred but not essential, as we provide training. Additionally, you will possess: - Empathy and a non-judgmental attitude toward patients and the public - The ability to connect easily with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds - The capacity to identify and report issues affecting patient welfare - A good level of physical fitness and mobility It is essential that candidates are eligible to work in New Zealand or hold a valid New Zealand visa at the time of application.
