    Description

About the Company At Ara Poutama Aotearoa, we are driven by a singular purpose: the wellness and wellbeing of people. Our organization is dedicated to helping those in our care reach their potential while ensuring the safety and health of our communities and whanau. We are passionate about reducing re-offending and enhancing community safety through a values-led approach that encompasses leadership, respect, spirituality, guardianship, and relationships. As we continue to grow, we seek talented individuals who are committed to fostering an inclusive and vibrant workplace, celebrating the unique contributions of every member of our team. About the Role We are currently seeking Corrections Officers to join our team at Arohata Women’s Prison, one of three women’s prisons in New Zealand. Arohata is dedicated to addressing the unique needs of women and has implemented a gender-specific, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive approach through our Women’s Strategy, "Wahine: E Rere Ana Ki te Pae Hou." In this role, you will collaborate with a supportive team to manage the well-being, health, and safety of the women at our facility. We understand that the women in our care have different needs compared to men, and our approach is designed to provide them with the necessary care, treatment, encouragement, counseling, skills, and support to create better futures for themselves, their tamariki, and their whanau. Requirements We are looking for candidates who: - Can build meaningful relationships and are effective communicators and empathetic listeners. - Are motivated to create a positive impact in their community and inspired by the opportunity to change lives. - Value integrity and demonstrate this in their daily actions. - Have experience in a Kaupapa Maori environment or are open to learning about it (this is desirable but not essential). Additionally, applicants must: - Have the legal right to work in New Zealand. We give priority to candidates who already hold this right and may not be able to support visa applications for this role. - Hold a Full New Zealand Driver Licence (holders of a Full International Licence are also eligible to apply). - Be medically fit for employment and complete a Medical Assessment and Physical Readiness Assessment. About the Benefits We offer a competitive starting salary of $67,519, which increases as you achieve national qualifications (Level 3 at $72,197 and Level 4 at $77,713). There are ample career progression opportunities available, including pathways to Senior Corrections Officer, Principal Corrections Officer, and Tier 5 Manager positions. Our collective agreement ensures fair compensation, including overtime rates and shift allowances. You will be part of a dedicated team where every day presents a chance to make a tangible difference in our community. We also facilitate a strong sense of belonging through numerous events and support networks. As part of your professional growth, you will attain NZQA qualifications at Levels 3 and 4 as an integral part of your role. A full uniform will be provided to you. Your journey will begin with comprehensive training, starting with a one-week induction at Arohata Women’s Prison, followed by five weeks of training at our National Training Centre in Trentham, Wellington, and an additional four weeks back at Arohata before graduation. Your learning journey will continue as you develop in this essential role. We look forward to welcoming individuals who share our commitment to making a difference in the lives of women and their families.
