About the Role
We are currently seeking a Paediatric Surgeon to become a valued member of our dedicated team at Waikato Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for participating in the on-call roster, providing outpatient care, and managing theatre lists both on-site and at our regional centers and private facilities as necessary.

About the Team / Service

Serving a population of 400,000, including 82,000 children under 15, we provide comprehensive pediatric surgical care across the Midland Region. Our team consists of four Paediatric Surgeons, one Medical Officer, and four registrars, all supported by a robust tertiary Pediatric Medical Service, Intensive Care (non-specialist pediatric), and a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Additionally, we are part of the Midland Trauma Service, with Waikato being one of the busiest trauma centers in the country and the only Level 1 accredited trauma center in New Zealand.
Teaching and training are integral to our identity. We have a strong reputation for supporting undergraduate medical students and pediatric surgical trainees, including accreditation for one early SET trainee. For those interested in research, we provide excellent on-campus support through the University of Auckland's Waikato Clinical School and the Clinical Audit Support Unit.
About You
To be considered for this role, you should possess:
- Vocational registration in Paediatric Surgery
- Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- A current practicing certificate with no significant restrictions on practice
- Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi
