About the Company
Tradestaff Global is a leading recruitment agency dedicated to connecting skilled tradespeople with exciting job opportunities. We are currently seeking qualified and licensed electricians with commercial experience to join our team for a unique opportunity at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the Summer season of 2025/26. This is an extraordinary chance to work in one of the most remote and beautiful locations on Earth.
About the Role
We are looking for hard-working team players who are ready to take on the challenges of construction in Antarctica. The deployment period will be approximately from October 2025 to March 2026, and this role requires a commitment to staying on-site for several months.
The primary focus of this position is commercial electrical work, including tasks related to medium voltage systems. Candidates with experience in fabricating metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, and fire alarms will have a distinct advantage. You should be comfortable with a range of tasks from reading electrical schematics to pulling wires, and possess a current New Zealand Electrical Practising Licence.
We encourage applicants to highlight relevant experience in the following areas within their CV:
- UPS battery systems and/or backup generator systems
- Telecoms
- Security system installation
- Switchgear and transformer wiring
- Fire alarms
Requirements
Due to travel restrictions, we can only accept applications from New Zealand and U.S. citizens who hold New Zealand or U.S. passports and are currently living and working in New Zealand.
Candidates must be willing to receive vaccinations for Flu, Tdap, and MMR. Please note that these positions are not 'fly in, fly out' (FIFO); you will be on-site for extended periods, working long hours, six days a week.
Start dates are approximate and contingent upon passing medical and dental checks, obtaining security clearance, fulfilling your notice period, and availability of ice flights. Additionally, applicants must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test, hold a Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence, and maintain a clean criminal record.
The application process can be lengthy, and candidates should be prepared to demonstrate patience. If necessary, you may need to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams, which we will cover, including flights from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
We offer a competitive hourly rate of NZ$66.11, with contracts paid fortnightly for a 54-hour work week. We provide flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. All personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied.
While the work is demanding, it presents an opportunity to save money, gain invaluable experience, and form lasting friendships. This role could be a remarkable addition to your professional journey.
