About the Role
As a Programme Facilitator, you will play a crucial role in supporting individuals within our two Wellington Prisons and six Community Corrections sites. Your primary focus will be to help them understand and address the underlying causes of their offending behavior, guiding them towards creating crime-free futures.
You will deliver a variety of clinically designed therapeutic programs, either individually or in partnership with a co-facilitator. By embracing the principles of manaaki, kaitiaki, wairua, rangatira, and whanau, you will provide a rehabilitative experience that respects and upholds the dignity of each participant.
Please note that this specific position will not be located in the Special Treatment Units, despite what may be indicated in the job description.
We will conduct an Assessment Centre for this role during the week of 25th August 2025 at the Regional Administration Building, Freyburg Road extension, Trentham Upper Hutt. Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend in person. The anticipated start date for this position is 13th October 2025.
About You
We are looking for individuals who possess strong active listening skills and a genuine desire to help those in our care gain insight into their harmful behaviors. You should be comfortable walking alongside individuals on their journey while consistently reflecting on your own practices.
In addition to aligning with our organizational values, you should be able to demonstrate the following:
- Excellent communication skills and a natural ability to engage and build relationships.
- Cultural understanding, particularly under a tikanga Maori framework.
- Resilience and flexibility, as each day will present unique challenges.
- Self-awareness, with a strong emphasis on maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
- An understanding of de-escalation and conflict resolution techniques.
- A current driver's license.
While not essential, it would be beneficial to have knowledge of individual and group behavior, as well as relevant tertiary education in psychology, social work, counseling, or a similar field, accompanied by practical experience in this or a related area.
Candidates must hold a Full New Zealand Driver's License and have a legal right to work in New Zealand without restriction for a minimum of 12 months.
Skills and Experience
An effective Programme Facilitator will exhibit the following qualities:
- Strong listening and communication skills, enabling the establishment of positive relationships with participants and stakeholders.
- An eagerness to learn about Maori culture, protocols, and peoples, with the willingness to apply kaupapa Maori practices in your work.
- Ideally, experience in delivering and facilitating therapeutic interventions, whether individually or in group settings (though this is not mandatory).
- Comfort with receiving regular constructive feedback and the maturity to grow and develop professionally.
- Experience in report writing.
Salary
The starting salary for this position is $69,120, with opportunities for advancement. Appointment and remuneration will be based on relevant skills and experience.
