About the Role Position: General Manager – South Island Stevedoring/Marshalling Operations In this senior leadership role, you will combine strategic oversight with hands-on leadership across multiple port locations in the South Island. You will support four Port Operations Managers based in Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, and Bluff. Your key responsibilities will include ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective service delivery while fostering strong relationships with customers, port authorities, and internal teams. You will also drive business growth. As a member of the executive leadership team, you will play a vital role in shaping Qube’s national operations strategy. Your focus will be on driving continuous improvement across the South Island and ensuring alignment with North Island operations through collaboration with the General Manager for Stevedoring and Marshalling in the North Island. Location: South Island, New Zealand (specific location to be determined) Status: Permanent full-time salaried position Key Responsibilities - Support Port Operations Managers in overseeing stevedoring and log marshalling services across our South Island sites. - Drive operational excellence, safety, and compliance at all locations. - Develop and implement strategic plans that align with company goals. - Build and maintain strong relationships with port authorities, customers, and internal stakeholders. - Oversee workforce planning, recruitment, and performance management. - Ensure cost-effective service delivery and promote continuous improvement. - Collaborate with other executive leaders to shape business strategy. - Represent Qube Ports NZ at industry forums and regional engagements. Requirements To be successful in this role, you will need extensive experience in port logistics, stevedoring, and/or log marshalling operations. Strong leadership and people management skills are essential, along with commercial acumen and a proven track record of delivering results. Effective communication across all business levels is crucial, and you should be prepared to travel weekly across South Island port locations.
