Description
Location: Hutt Hospital
Contract: Permanent, Full Time
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and aims to provide quality healthcare for all New Zealanders. We believe in building a health system that emphasizes partnership, equity, sustainability, and whanau-centered care, while striving for excellence through integration and collaboration.
About the Role
In the role of Allied Health Assistant, you will engage in a variety of tasks supporting our Allied Health and Nursing teams. Your responsibilities will include installing equipment, educating clients on its use, and coaching individuals in activities aimed at enhancing their strength, cognition, and overall function. A significant aspect of this position involves reporting progress back to the team and identifying when clients or their whanau may require additional support.
About the Team/Service Location
The Advancing Wellness at Home Initiative (AWHI) team provides a range of intervention options for individuals of all ages who meet eligibility criteria. Our goal is to optimize the quality of life and physical and social functioning of patients within the community. We recognize that recovery is often more effective in a home setting, so our primary focus is to assist individuals in regaining or maintaining their independence following a hospital stay. This may include patients who have experienced medical issues, significant injuries, or strokes.
Our multidisciplinary team comprises Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Speech Language Therapists, and other Allied Health Assistants. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with all these professionals. While the primary work location is in the Hutt Valley, there may be occasions where you will be required to work from sites within the Capital Coast region.
About You
As an Allied Health Assistant, you will play a vital role in our team. We are looking for someone who is compassionate, efficient, and possesses strong communication skills, with the ability to motivate individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. You should be capable of interpreting and executing tasks as directed by our health professionals. A commitment to ongoing learning is essential, and you should either hold or be willing to enroll in the New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) Health Assistance Strand. Previous experience in the public health system is preferred, as is familiarity with equipment management, including credentialing with Enable NZ in Service Accreditation, to support optimal delegation by our health care professionals.
