About the Role
We are currently seeking a motivated individual to join our team at Te Papakainga Atawhai o Tamaki, located at Auckland City Hospital. This part-time position is for 20 hours per week (0.5 FTE) and is aimed at enhancing the recruitment, retention, leadership, and development of the Māori health workforce.
In this role, you will be part of a collaborative team dedicated to nurturing and supporting Māori health workers within our health services. You will work closely with the Operations Manager and Māori Engagement Specialist, contributing to the initiatives that align with our Māori Strategic Approach and business plans. Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting the organization’s strategic commitment to improving the recruitment, retention, and development of the Māori workforce at Te Toka Tumai.
- Fostering cultural safety and addressing health inequities.
- Promoting Māori health outcomes in line with our strategic objectives.
- Leading and championing kaupapa Māori workforce programs and activities.
- Engaging with key Māori providers, iwi, and hapū within the health and education sectors to build and maintain strong relationships.

About You
We are looking for a candidate with a relevant tertiary qualification and experience in Māori development, along with a solid understanding of mātauranga Māori and kaupapa Māori approaches. You should be familiar with the significance of our obligations under Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how to apply its principles meaningfully in your work.
The ideal candidate will promote a Māori worldview, support Te Reo Māori and Tikanga Māori, and possess strong skills in building authentic relationships that honor and enhance the mana of individuals within our community.
