We are currently looking for an experienced Works Supervisor – Mechanical to oversee the execution of our mechanical projects in our Christchurch workshop and across associated sites.
About the Role
In this senior, hands-on leadership position, you will play a vital role in translating project plans into practical execution. This role is tailored for individuals who have a strong foundation in the trades and possess a deep understanding of constructability. You will work closely with our General Manager – Mechanical, ensuring that our workshop operates efficiently and to the highest standards while fostering the development of a high-performing team.
As the Works Supervisor, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Managing the day-to-day operations of the workshop and the physical execution of mechanical projects.
- Allocating resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to optimize project outcomes.
- Providing constructability insights to support project methodologies and execution plans.
- Leading, mentoring, and developing fabricator welders and site staff.
Your role is crucial in ensuring that all projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to the quality standards that Seipp Construction is known for.
Key Responsibilities
Operational
- Lead all mechanical activities in the workshop according to project plans, budgets, and timelines.
- Offer constructability expertise, assisting project teams in the development and approval of methodologies.
- Allocate and manage equipment to maximize productivity and efficiency.
- Monitor workshop performance and proactively address any operational challenges.
- Capture lessons learned and implement continuous improvement strategies across projects.
- Provide regular updates on performance, productivity, and risks to the General Manager – Mechanical.
- Support other senior staff as needed.
People & Leadership
- Uphold Seipp Values by setting clear expectations and standards for the team.
- Build, mentor, and enhance the capabilities of both workshop and site teams.
- Coach direct reports and assist with personal development planning.
- Facilitate performance reviews and ensure timely completion of annual evaluations.
- Lead HR initiatives and training for workshop staff, ensuring policy adherence.
- Encourage debriefs and promote a culture of continuous improvement and minor enhancements.
- Maintain open and effective communication across projects and teams.
Health & Safety
- Champion a culture of safety that prioritizes no shortcuts.
- Actively support HSQE initiatives and ensure ISO compliance.
- Foster an environment of trust and accountability regarding safety practices.
- Ensure that all methodologies are designed to support the safe delivery of projects.
About You
Qualifications & Experience
- Trade Certificate in an engineering discipline (or higher).
- A minimum of 15 years of experience in engineering delivery.
- Proven track record in leading complex mechanical projects.
- Strong knowledge of constructability and practical problem-solving skills.
- Confident in managing labor, subcontractors, equipment, and materials.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop teams.
- Comfortable making independent decisions.
- Intermediate proficiency in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- A strong commitment to safety and a proven safety record.
