Description
About the Company
We are a dynamic and growing civil contractor based in Christchurch, specializing in trusted drainage and earthworks services throughout Canterbury. With a strong local reputation and a healthy project pipeline, we are committed to delivering exceptional results. Our team is eager to expand, and we value individuals who are ready to contribute to our growth journey.
About the Role
We are seeking an Operations Manager to join our leadership team and oversee the daily delivery of our projects. This crucial role reports directly to the General Manager and involves shaping the future of our business while supporting our dedicated team on the ground. If you are ready to move beyond corporate constraints and make a significant impact, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Be Doing
As the Operations Manager, your responsibilities will include:
Operational Leadership
- Overseeing the daily performance of project teams across civil, residential, and commercial sites while assisting with resource allocation.
- Ensuring timely, budget-compliant delivery that meets our quality standards.
- Supporting site supervisors and project managers in planning, coordination, and problem-solving.
Team Development
- Leading and mentoring a close-knit team of supervisors, administrative staff, and project managers, influencing both day-to-day operations and long-term strategic direction.
- Identifying training and development opportunities to promote team growth.
Strategic Oversight
- Collaborating with the Senior Leadership team to implement business improvement initiatives.
- Supporting the Finance Manager with budgeting, commercial reporting, and system development for scalability.
- Assisting with client engagement and positioning for future project opportunities.
What They Offer
We provide a competitive salary range between $125,000 and $140,000, depending on experience and proven ability, along with a company car and phone. You will have a direct line to ownership, reporting to the General Manager and working closely with the company's founding Director. Your contributions will have a meaningful impact on our operations, and you will be part of a down-to-earth culture where teamwork is valued. As new projects arise, you will benefit from a stable pipeline across Canterbury, and there is a clear promotional pathway as the company continues to grow, potentially leading to roles such as General Manager or Operations Director.
What You Bring
We are looking for candidates with:
- Proven leadership experience in civil construction, preferably in drainage or earthworks, though other backgrounds will also be considered.
- The ability to connect site operations with business strategy, including scheduling, budgeting, people management, and process improvement.
- A calm demeanor under pressure and a solutions-focused approach.
- Strong communication skills and a coaching mindset.
- A valid New Zealand Driver's Licence and full working rights in New Zealand.
- A clean criminal record.
