In Canterbury, we provide health services to nearly 600,000 residents, and we are dedicated to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We strive to ensure that our partnerships with Māori are at the forefront of our discussions and decision-making processes. About the Role We are currently seeking Fellows and Medical Officers to join our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) department on a fixed-term contract for up to two years. The Intensive Care Service encompasses several critical areas, including: - Intensive and High Dependency Care, covering tertiary trauma, neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, spinal care, and a wide range of general surgical and medical care, as well as pediatric services. - A Deteriorating Patient Outreach Service that supports wards across the Christchurch Hospital campus. - The Canterbury Air Retrieval Service, which assists the South Island region. Our ICU has recently transitioned to a new 36-bed, three-pod facility, enhancing our ability to provide high-quality care. Candidates should have completed or be preparing to sit the Australasian College of Intensive Care Medicine Part II Examination and possess a minimum of 18 months of Intensive Care experience. We also encourage applications from those in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia, Internal Medicine, or senior trainees from other specialties who wish to gain further experience in Intensive Care. In this role, you will have the opportunity to function as a junior specialist with graded responsibilities and, depending on your experience, increased clinical autonomy. Your duties will include assessing and managing critically ill or injured patients, as well as supervising medical and other staff.
