About the Role
We are currently seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join our dedicated team at our Meadow Fresh dairy manufacturing facility in Christchurch. In this role, you will report to the Maintenance Manager and will be responsible for providing high-quality maintenance and repairs to equipment throughout the plant. A significant emphasis will be placed on enhancing the operational effectiveness of our site.
The shift pattern for this position involves 4 days on (2 days starting at 6 AM and 2 nights starting at 6 PM) followed by 4 days off. The pay rate is $47.20 per hour, with a night shift allowance and overtime opportunities available.
Key accountabilities for this role include:
- Performing scheduled planned maintenance tasks as well as addressing unplanned maintenance tasks, including breakdowns.
- Ensuring that machinery and plant equipment are maintained for optimum performance.
- Conducting general mechanical repairs, including work on motors and conveyors.
- Maintaining accurate site engineering documentation and plant logs, ensuring that information is always current.
- Driving factory quality and SHE standards to promote sustainable safety improvements across the site.
- Assisting in preparing the site for external and regulatory audits when needed.
- Collaborating with the Engineering Manager to manage mechanical and electrical control hazards on the hazard register, ensuring timely resolution.
- Communicating all breakdowns to the Engineering Manager.
- Ensuring that all planned maintenance work is completed and compliant within the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Providing timely reports to the Engineering Manager as required.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent field.
- Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and food safety.
- Strong skills in root cause analysis for effective breakdown resolution.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) principles, including machinery guarding.
- Experience in UHT production, food processing, and FMCG manufacturing is desirable.
- Proficiency as a fitter, including experience with conveyor belts, motors, sprockets, bearings, gears, and pneumatics.
