Description
About the Company
We are located in Aotearoa, New Zealand, where our community teams engage with a richly diverse population, including Māori, Pacific, and Asian communities in both urban and rural settings, specifically in the North Shore, Rodney District, and West Auckland. Our focus is on providing comprehensive mental health services that cater to the unique needs of these communities.
About the Role
The Mental Health Services for Older Adults (MHSOA) is dedicated to offering both community and inpatient services to individuals grappling with serious mental health issues. Our services include assessment, treatment, and support for:
- Individuals aged 65 and older with severe mental disorders.
- People of any age diagnosed with primary dementia and exhibiting serious behavioral and/or psychological symptoms.
- Those with pre-existing severe mental health disorders who may require specialized care from MHSOA due to significant medical co-morbidities or frailty.
The Kingsley Mortimer Unit (Ward 12) is a 19-bed inpatient unit situated at the North Shore Hospital, providing essential inpatient assessment and treatment for older adults facing mental health challenges within the Waitemata district.
Our MHSOA has two community teams: one serving the North Shore area, including the Rodney District and urban North Shore, and the other in West Auckland. Additionally, our Sub-Acute and Rehabilitation Team (STaR) collaborates across the district, delivering intensive support as needed.
As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to teach and supervise psychiatry trainees, house officers, and medical students. We are an accredited training service, hosting rotating pre-examination and advanced trainees in psychiatry focused on older adults.
A core responsibility for our consultant psychiatrists is providing clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team. Our service adopts a clinical governance model, ensuring that clinicians are actively involved in service development, planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
