About the Role
We are currently looking for experienced Steel Fixers to become part of our dynamic workforce. In this position, you will play a crucial role in our projects by ensuring that steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh are accurately positioned and secured within concrete forms. We value organization and trustworthiness in our team members, and we encourage a strong commitment to quality workmanship.
Flexibility is key in this role, as you may be required to work across various locations throughout the country to support our projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Position and secure steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh in concrete forms using fasteners, rod bending machines, blowtorches, or hand tools.
- Space and fasten rods in forms according to blueprints, utilizing wire and pliers.
- Determine quantities, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods based on blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
- Place blocks under rebar to ensure proper height when reinforcing floors.
- Cut rods to specified lengths using metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, or acetylene torches.
- Cut and fit wire mesh or fabric, using hooked rods, and position it in concrete for reinforcement.
- Bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machines and weld them using arc-welding equipment.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
- A minimum of one year of relevant steel fixing experience or a qualification equivalent to NZQF level 2 or 3 is preferred.
- A friendly demeanor, strong time management skills, and an excellent work ethic are essential.
- A commitment to learning and developing skills within the industry.
- A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Reliability and a hardworking attitude.
Benefits
- Competitive pay ranging from a minimum of $26 per hour to a maximum of $40 per hour.
- Guaranteed minimum of 30 hours of work per week.
- Opportunities for travel to various locations, including Auckland, Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Gisborne, Whanganui-Manawatu, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson-Tasman, Canterbury, West Coast, Otago, and Southland.
- This is a permanent and full-time position.
