About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated customer service professional who will play a crucial role in ensuring the success of our stores. This position is primarily focused on delivering an exceptional experience for both our customers and donors, fostering repeat visits.
The ideal candidate will be versatile, detail-oriented, and capable of thriving in a fast-paced retail setting with a high volume of stock. Daily responsibilities will vary, ranging from greeting and assisting customers and donors on the shop floor to managing tasks in the stock processing area.
We value teamwork and collaboration, and you will work closely with colleagues to achieve shared goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding customer service to both customers and donors
- Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods
- Process sales and manage cash handling with precision and efficiency, including end-of-day cash reconciliation
- Maintain a well-presented, well-stocked, and tidy store environment
- Ensure compliance with policies and standard operating procedures, including health and safety regulations and audit controls
- Contribute to a positive team culture and perform general duties as required within the Family Stores
Requirements
- Strong customer service skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and de-escalate situations when necessary
- Resilient, positive, and people-focused team player, capable of relating to individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Physically fit and able to handle regular lifting, as this is a daily requirement of the role
- Proficient in using various retail and communication technologies, including point of sale systems and tablets
- Self-managing, able to prioritize tasks effectively while working under pressure
- Clear communicator, both verbally and in writing
- Ethical work approach, exhibiting respect, honesty, and transparency to build trust across the Family Stores and uphold The Salvation Army's values
- Comfortable adhering to established procedures while applying sound judgment when necessary
- Eligibility to work in New Zealand; employment offers are contingent upon a satisfactory Ministry of Justice clearance/police check

This is a permanent part-time position, requiring 10 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours as needed. Please note that Family Stores may operate on certain public holidays.
The starting hourly rate for this position is $26.
