About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated customer service professional to join our team in a critical role that ensures our stores' success. You will be responsible for providing an exceptional experience for both our customers and donors, which encourages repeat visits.
In this role, you will thrive in a fast-paced retail environment with high stock volumes. Your tasks will vary daily, from serving and greeting customers and donors on the shop floor to working in the stock processing area. We value a collaborative approach, and you will work closely with your colleagues to achieve our goals and targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver outstanding customer service to both customers and donors
- Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods
- Accurately process sales and handle cash, including end-of-day cash reconciliations
- Maintain a well-presented, well-stocked, and tidy store environment
- Ensure compliance with policies and standard operating procedures, including health and safety measures and audit controls
- Contribute positively to team culture and perform various duties within the Family Stores as required
Requirements
- Excellent customer service skills, with sound judgment and the ability to de-escalate situations when necessary
- Resilient, positive, and people-oriented team player with a natural ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Physically fit and capable of regular lifting, as this is a daily aspect of the role
- Proficient in using various retail and communication technologies, including point-of-sale software and tablets
- Self-managing with the ability to stay focused and re-prioritize tasks under pressure
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ethical approach to work, demonstrating respect, honesty, and transparency to build trust within the Family Stores, while upholding The Salvation Army's values
- Comfortable working within established procedures while applying sound judgment when necessary
- Must have the right to work in New Zealand; all employment offers are subject to a satisfactory Ministry of Justice clearance or police check

This is a permanent, part-time position requiring 14 hours per week. Please note that Family Stores operate on some public holidays. The starting hourly rate for this role is $26.00.
