About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders, grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are committed to ensuring excellent healthcare while fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. About the Role Kaitaia Hospital is seeking an endoscopist to join our team following the successful implementation of the National Bowel Screening program in Northland. This is a full-time, permanent position that does not require on-call or general medicine duties. We are looking for an individual who is passionate about excellence and has a commitment to rural healthcare. In this role, you will perform a range of endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopies and upper endoscopies, with precision and care. Your expertise will play a crucial role in diagnosing and treating patients with gastrointestinal disorders, ultimately contributing to the health and well-being of our community. You will be part of a growing endoscopy department in Te Tai Tokerau, which has facilities in both Whangarei and Kaitaia. Currently, there are four gastroenterologists based in Whangarei who also perform endoscopic procedures in Kaitaia. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build collegial relationships with the surgical team and work across both sites. We encourage ongoing professional development and will provide a weekly session for you to pursue sub-specialty interests, which may include advanced polyp removal, bowel screening, or research initiatives, subject to approval by the clinical lead. About the Location Northland boasts a warm climate, excellent schools, affordable housing, and scenic coastal areas that offer a variety of recreational activities. We are conveniently located just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from the international hub of Auckland. For additional information about our beautiful location, please visit our website. About You To be considered for this position, you must have or be eligible for specialist (or locum tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine or Surgical Vocational scope of practice. Ideally, you will hold FRACP, FRACS, or an equivalent qualification, and possess NZ committee or equivalent body-certified independent competency in gastroscopy and colonoscopy, along with proven experience in endoscopic procedures. We also welcome applications from advanced trainees who are nearing the completion of their training. If you are currently overseas or not yet registered, we can assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration.
