Our vision is to facilitate an environment where every individual can thrive. About the Role We are currently seeking a candidate for a 12-month fixed-term role within our engineering team. In this position, you will play a crucial role in building and supporting the platforms that drive our company forward. We are focused on making these platforms efficient and user-friendly, enabling Trade Me to deliver exceptional value to our customers at an accelerated pace. Your responsibilities will include establishing effective development practices and fostering opportunities for both personal and team growth through training, mentoring, and collaborative inquiry. You will take a broader view of your work, engaging with your squad and understanding how your contributions fit into the larger objectives of Trade Me. In this role, you can expect to: - Enhance our engineers' path-to-production tooling, ensuring a seamless and resilient development, testing, and deployment process. - Maintain and optimize our CI/CD pipelines to provide a fast feedback loop for our engineering teams. - Integrate and uphold engineering best practices within the CI/CD pipeline, ensuring consistent adherence throughout the development lifecycle. - Collaborate with your squad to maintain and improve our development, test, and staging environments, offering them as a service to our engineering family. - Actively participate in efforts to streamline the Developer Experience of our tools and pipelines. - Provide DevOps support to other platform and application development teams when needed. - Develop and maintain software systems in accordance with Trade Me's quality controls and standards, including identifying and addressing technical debt. - Debug, diagnose, resolve, and monitor functional, operational, and performance issues within developed systems. Requirements To be successful in this role, you will need to bring the following qualifications and experience to our team: - A tertiary qualification in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience. - A minimum of 5 years of experience in similar roles with increasing levels of responsibility. - Proficiency in building CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitLab. - Solid programming experience in languages such as .NET, Ruby, or Python, applicable to both Windows and web applications. - Familiarity with Terraform and infrastructure as code (IaC) for building cloud infrastructure. - Experience with Docker and Docker Compose for application packaging and deployment. - Understanding of SOLID principles, along with the ability to produce elegant and testable code in a dynamic codebase. - Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude. - In-depth knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, optimization best practices, and the capabilities of SaaS vendors. - Proficient in Version Control Systems like Git, including best practices such as branching strategies and access management. - Hands-on experience with scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, Golang, and Python. - Demonstrated skills in container management and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Docker Compose, Kubernetes). - Experience developing and maintaining web applications in environments like IIS and Nginx. - Familiarity with designing and consuming RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL. - Experience with database scripting and schema management in systems such as MSSQL or PostgreSQL. - Experience developing and maintaining cloud-native applications in platforms such as GCP, AWS, or Azure. - Knowledge of cloud architecture and services, including EC2, S3, Lambda, Cloud Functions, Cloud Run, and Compute Engines.
