About the Role
We are currently seeking experienced Carpenters to join our team. This role is full-time and permanent, with a minimum guarantee of 30 hours per week. The pay ranges from $26.00 to $40.00 per hour, depending on experience and skill level. As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to work on significant infrastructure and commercial projects across New Zealand, with site locations determined by project demands. We provide all necessary personal protective equipment and tools.
Key Responsibilities
As a Carpenter with Extrastaff Limited, your responsibilities will include:
- Shaping and cutting materials to specified measurements using hand tools, machines, or power saws.
- Following established safety rules and maintaining a safe and clean work environment.
- Measuring and marking cutting lines on materials using appropriate tools.
- Installing structures or fixtures such as windows, frames, flooring, trim, or hardware.
- Verifying the accuracy of structures using plumb bobs and levels.
- Building or repairing cabinets, doors, frameworks, and other wooden fixtures.
- Selecting and ordering lumber and other required materials.
- Assembling and fastening materials to create frameworks or props.
- Removing damaged sections of structures and performing repairs.
- Maintaining records and documenting actions, including progress reports.
- Inspecting various structures to detect damage.
- Erecting scaffolding or ladders for above-ground assembly.
- Finishing surfaces of woodwork or wallboard.
- Studying drawings and creating forming shutters for concrete work.
- Arranging for subcontractors for specialized tasks.
- Covering subfloors and laying hardwood or other flooring types.
- Filling cracks or defects in plaster or plasterboard.
- Applying paneling to ceilings or walls.
- Preparing cost estimates for clients or employers.
- Handling minor plumbing, welding, or concrete mixing tasks.
- Performing all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills and experience:
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant carpentry experience or a related qualification.
- Strong time management skills and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- A friendly demeanor with an excellent work ethic.
- A dedication to learning and developing skills within the industry.
- A sound understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
Nationwide Opportunity and Travel
While this position is based in the Nelson Region, we are recruiting for carpenters nationwide, with opportunities across both the North and South Islands. Regions include Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Manawatu-Whanganui, Wellington, Tasman, Marlborough, West Coast, Canterbury, Otago, and Southland. Applicants from any of these regions are encouraged to apply, and you must be willing to travel or relocate as needed. Relocation costs will be covered by the company.
