Middlemore Hospital is the largest facility operated by Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand. We provide secondary-level hospital and specialist care, as well as a select range of community and domiciliary services for the diverse population of Counties Manukau, stretching from Otahuhu to Port Waikato. As an accredited teaching hospital of Auckland University, we cater to a wide array of medical and surgical specialties and serve a catchment area of approximately 550,000 people. About the Role
We are currently seeking a Palliative Care Specialist Medical Officer (SMO) for a permanent part-time position at Middlemore Hospital. Our palliative care consult team is composed of a clinically and culturally robust group of professionals, including palliative care specialists, clinical nurse specialists, a senior registrar, and a part-time pharmacist. The service operates from the Middlemore hospital campus.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with community services, including Totara and Franklin Hospices, as well as primary and secondary care providers, locality-based community teams, aged residential care facilities, and non-government organizations (NGOs). You will provide specialized palliative care support to the nurse-led Franklin Hospice team.
Requirements

We are looking for candidates with previous training and experience as a consultant in a Palliative Care Service. Please note that you will need to provide source verification of your qualifications for your registration application.

Salary for this role is in accordance with the ASMS SECA, ranging from $185,000 to $267,980, plus allowances and continuing medical education (CME) support. The anticipated start date for this position is November 24, 2025.
