About the Role We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist to provide high-quality Clinical Psychology services focused on the assessment and treatment of clients. In this role, you will ensure that clients' needs are met in a culturally, clinically, and legally safe manner. As a Clinical Psychologist, you will integrate psychological science, theory, and practice to understand and alleviate human suffering and disability while promoting individual and family/whanau development, adaptation, and recovery. You will work within multidisciplinary teams, offering psychological assessments and interventions to clients in a hospital setting. Additionally, you will engage in activities that support the development and functionality of our teams and the organization. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to: - Case consultation - Staff training and supervision - Leadership and involvement in service development activities - Research and evaluation-related activities About the Team/Service/Location The Regional Rehabilitation and Extended Care Service operates as a 24-hour inpatient service at Ratonga Rua Hospital. It comprises two inpatient units and seven cottages on the hospital grounds. Our service provides both longer-term care through the Tawhirimatea Unit and intensive rehabilitation through the Tane Mahuta Unit, which includes secure and open settings. In total, we offer 63 inpatient beds, some in purpose-built cottages with one to four bedrooms. Our focus is on recovery and rehabilitation, providing individuals with the opportunity to learn new skills, gain independence, and feel empowered for community living. The service integrates with other hospital programs, including those from the Tangaroa Activity Centre and Ruaumoko and Vaka Ole Pasifika cultural services, as well as work programs and community-based resources. The Clinical Psychology team, based at Tane Mahuta, currently consists of one experienced consultant and is looking to add another Clinical Psychologist to our team. About You We are looking for a candidate who can thrive within a multidisciplinary team while meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external stakeholders. You should be able to develop constructive working relationships with other team members across both rehabilitation units. This role is ideal for someone with a solid understanding of mental health and addiction issues in adults and their impacts on clients, families, and the community. A non-judgmental approach to addiction and the lifestyle choices of our client group is essential. Essential experience and qualifications include: - A minimum of a Master's Degree in Psychology and a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology or equivalent - Registration with the NZ Psychologist Board, with a Clinical Psychology Vocational Scope of Practice - A current annual practicing certificate - A strong understanding of psychopathology, psychological theories, and ICD-10 diagnoses - The ability to assess, diagnose, and treat individuals with coexisting mental health and addiction issues - Proficiency in psychometrics and experience with psychological testing - The capability to develop sound psychological formulations and provide interventions for clients who have experienced trauma - Skills to advise, consult, and educate clients and relevant others about treatment options - The ability to collaborate with other mental health staff to provide psychological expertise within the MHAIDS integrated care approach Working at Health New Zealand At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of Aotearoa/New Zealand.
