Description
Location: Porirua
Contract: Permanent - Part Time or Full Time
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders, guided by the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We are committed to building a health system characterized by partnership, equity, sustainability, whanau-centered care, and excellence.
About the Role
We are seeking a Clinical Psychologist to join our Regional Intellectual Disability Consultation and Assessment Service (RIDCAS) Community Team. This position offers the flexibility to work either full time or part time. There is also the option to combine a part-time role in the community team with a part-time position in our inpatient service.
As part of a small, specialized team consisting of medical, nursing, and psychology clinicians, you will provide essential care to individuals with intellectual disabilities and mental health challenges. Our clients may have been placed in community accommodation services by the courts after being deemed unfit for trial, and your expertise will play a vital role in their rehabilitation.
We value your professional interests and encourage your involvement in psychological assessment, formulation, and both individual and group treatment. As an active member of our multi-disciplinary team, you will collaborate with other health professionals to design and implement evidence-based care.
In addition to your clinical responsibilities, you will have numerous opportunities to contribute to service improvement initiatives. The Intellectual Disability Service is expanding, and we are eager to incorporate psychological knowledge, theory, and processes into our practices. You will also receive support from the broader MHAIDS network of clinical psychologists.
About the Team/Service/Location
RIDCAS specializes in providing short-term, intensive assessments, along with recommendations and advice for adult community and inpatient mental health services. We also focus on training and education related to intellectual disability and mental health for mental health services and NGOs.
Our team operates under two contracts:
1. The mental health contract offers tertiary services for adults with intellectual disabilities and co-existing mental illness. Secondary mental health services can directly refer clients with intellectual disabilities to RIDCAS for mental health assessments.
2. The forensic disability contract serves clients referred through the FCS (ID) Forensic Coordination Service. These clients are typically Care Recipients under the Intellectual Disability (Compulsory Care and Rehabilitation) Act of 2003, who have been convicted or found unfit for trial and are required to reside in a Regional Intellectual Disability Secure Accommodation Service (RIDSAS) for rehabilitation.
RIDCAS serves individuals residing in the central region of the North Island, including Horowhenua, Manawatu, Whanganui, Kapiti, Porirua, Wellington, Hutt Valley, Wairarapa, and Hawke’s Bay, with the exception of Tairawhiti for the forensic contract. Our service is part of a larger network providing inpatient care to both adults and youth referred by FCS(ID).
About You
The ideal candidate will have completed a postgraduate diploma in clinical psychology (or equivalent) and possess a Master’s or Doctoral degree in psychology. You should hold an annual practicing certificate, registered within the clinical scope of practice.
