About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant Addiction Medicine Physician or Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Tuhonohono Addiction Services team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with case managers and other staff to provide comprehensive care. You will also be responsible for liaising with primary care providers and NGO partners, supporting the medical development of our services, and coordinating with other departments as necessary.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Tuhonohono Addiction Services encompasses various programs, including the Community Alcohol and Drug Service, Opioid Treatment Service, Managed Withdrawal Service, and Co-Existing Disorder Service. Our multidisciplinary team consists of nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, specialist medical staff, and administrative personnel. We pride ourselves on delivering high-quality, client and whanau-centered care while fostering cultural and community connections.
The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) operates across the Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, and Capital and Coast regions, providing local, regional, and national services. Our services are delivered from multiple sites within the three sub-regions, including greater Wellington, Hutt Valley, and Wairarapa. Additionally, Te Korowai Whariki services offer regional forensic and rehabilitation support, while our intellectual disability services span the country from six bases located in Whangarei, Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
Our organization is one of the major employers in the Wellington region, employing over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff. We operate three hospitals: Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua, along with the Kapiti Health Centre in Paraparaumu.
About You
We are looking for candidates who are vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and hold a Fellowship in Addiction Specialty or a Fellowship with a medical college that qualifies for vocational registration with the MCNZ. Alternatively, candidates with a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) are also encouraged to apply.
The ideal candidate will have experience working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, consistently providing high standards of medical care, along with relevant experience and training in addiction medicine or psychiatry.
