About the Role
We are seeking a Consultant Addiction Medicine Physician or Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Tuhonohono Addiction Services team. In this role, you will work closely with case managers and other staff members to ensure a collaborative approach to care. You will also be responsible for providing liaison and support to primary care providers and non-governmental organization (NGO) partners. Additionally, this position involves contributing to the medical development of our services and coordinating with other hospital departments as needed.
About the Team/Service/Location
Tuhonohono Addiction Services encompasses a multidisciplinary team that includes nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, specialist medical staff, and administration personnel. We pride ourselves on delivering client and whanau-centered services that integrate cultural and community connections. Our services include the Community Alcohol and Drug Service, Opioid Treatment Service, Managed Withdrawal Service, and Co-Existing Disorder Service.
Our Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans the Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, and Capital and Coast regions, providing both local and regional services. We operate from multiple sites within these three sub-regions, including the Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital. Our commitment to high-quality care is reflected in our team of over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff members, making us one of the largest employers in the Wellington area.
About You
We are looking for candidates who are:
- Vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- Hold a Fellowship in Addiction Specialty or a Fellowship with a medical college that qualifies for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- Alternatively, hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) with the option to enter the Faculty of Addiction Medicine through various training pathways, including General Practice
- Experienced in collaborating within a multidisciplinary team
- Committed to providing consistently high standards of medical care
