About the Role We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a motivated and technically minded individual to join our team. This role will primarily be based at our Auckland, Penrose branch, with some travel required between the Northland and Taupo regions, as our lab services these areas. In this position, you will provide testing and technical support services to ensure the integrity of construction materials used by our operational teams across Auckland, Northland, and Taupo. Your responsibilities will include testing products such as asphalt, construction aggregates, and soils to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications. This role will encompass laboratory work, field testing, and pavement investigations, offering a diverse range of tasks and the chance to work in various locations. Flexibility is essential, as this position will require you to work a rotational night shift and weekend roster. You will be onsite with our Asphalt teams, conducting necessary testing while they complete their work outside of regular hours. Requirements This is a specialized technical role, and the ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and skills: - A minimum of three years of proven experience in a civil engineering laboratory, specifically with bitumen, emulsions, and polymer-modified binders. - Competency in aggregate and field testing in accordance with NZS4407 test methods. - Competency in soils testing per NZS4402 test methods. - Competency in asphalt testing as per ASTM test methods. - Proven experience in calibrating laboratory equipment to meet ISO/IEC 17052 compliance requirements. - Safe handling and use of a Nuclear Density Meter. - Understanding of ISO/IEC 17025 compliance for mechanical testing laboratories. - Progress towards Key Technical Personnel status or already obtained this designation. - A current full Class 1 driver's license is necessary, as some work will occur during night shifts, requiring travel between 10 PM and 5 AM. - Flexibility to work across Auckland, Northland, and Taupo regions is essential. Additional optional qualifications include: - A relevant science or engineering tertiary qualification, which would be advantageous but not mandatory. - Strong attention to detail, along with solid skills in MS Excel and Word. - Ability to work effectively as part of a team, including some leadership experience. - Excellent communication skills.
