Description
About the Company
Tradestaff Global is proud to offer unique opportunities for skilled professionals to work in remote locations. We are currently seeking qualified and licensed electricians with commercial experience for an exciting role at McMurdo Station in Antarctica during the Summer of 2025/26.
About the Role
We are looking for dedicated electricians to join our team for deployments expected from approximately October 2025 through March 2026. This position offers a chance to work in one of the most isolated yet stunning environments in the world. The work will primarily involve commercial electrical tasks up to medium voltage, and a strong advantage will be given to those with experience in fabricating metal conduit, data cabling, security systems, and fire alarms.
As part of our team, you should be comfortable reading electrical schematics and pulling wires. A current New Zealand Electrical Practising Licence is essential. We encourage you to highlight any additional experience you may have with UPS battery systems, backup generator systems, telecoms, security system installations, switchgear and transformer wiring, and fire alarms in your CV.
Requirements
We want to emphasize that only New Zealand and US citizens currently and permanently residing in New Zealand, with valid New Zealand or US passports, are eligible to apply due to travel restrictions.
Additionally, applicants must be willing to receive the Flu, Tdap, and MMR vaccinations. This position is not a fly-in-fly-out role; you will be stationed on the ice for an extended period, working long hours, six days a week.
Other requirements include:
- Passing medical and dental checks
- Obtaining security clearance
- Meeting your notice period and ice flight availability
- Successfully completing a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
- Holding a Full Class 1 NZ Driver Licence and maintaining a clean criminal record
Please note that the application process can be lengthy, so we appreciate your patience as we work through it. You will also need to travel to Tauranga for medical and dental examinations, which we will cover, including flights from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
In return for your hard work, we offer a competitive hourly rate of $66.11, paid fortnightly in NZ dollars for a 54-hour work week. We provide flights from any major New Zealand airport, food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance. All personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied.
This role is not only a chance to earn well but also an opportunity to save money while gaining invaluable experience and forming lasting friendships. If you have ever dreamed of working in such a unique location, this could be the perfect opportunity for you.
