About the Role
We are seeking a Purchasing Officer to join our team in New Zealand, reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager. In this crucial role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders, including local teams, Engineering, Project Managers, and suppliers both onshore and offshore. Your primary focus will be on optimizing supply chain operations through effective purchasing strategies, specifically in replenishment and New Product Introduction (NPI) purchasing.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Issuing purchase orders to both local and international vendors, as well as managing the expediting of existing orders.
- Overseeing contractual and relationship management with suppliers to ensure cost-effective delivery in alignment with Global Supply Chain Strategies.
- Generating forecasts for suppliers to enhance the on-time delivery of long-lead items.
- Conducting planning, forecasting, and inventory reconciliation meetings with key suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Monitoring End of Line and Obsolete parts, collaborating with Engineers and R&D to provide alternatives that maintain production continuity.
- Coordinating with freight forwarders and suppliers to address non-conformances and adjusting delivery dates for supplier deliveries into our warehouses across New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.
- Participating in supplier capability assessments and vendor evaluation programs, including RFP/RFQ processes when necessary.
- Maintaining master data within our ERP systems (Microsoft D365 & Epicor) and adjusting safety stock levels and minimum order quantities based on purchasing history and projected demand.
- Supporting the Finance team to ensure timely reconciliation of invoices from suppliers and freight forwarders.
- Identifying improvement opportunities to optimize departmental costs and efficiency.
- Collaborating with customer delivery teams to maintain optimal inventory levels for various commodity items.
Requirements
We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications:
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all organizational levels.
- A methodical and detail-oriented approach to planning and execution.
- Strong time management skills and the ability to learn quickly.
- An analytical mindset with a proactive attitude, focused on customer satisfaction, cost efficiency, and quality.
- A sense of accountability and the ability to manage projects through to completion.
- A positive and autonomous work ethic, with a determination to achieve high standards.
- Experience in purchasing and procurement functions, ideally with 2-5 years in a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably D365 and Epicor.
- Understanding of Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements.
- Ideally, 5+ years of experience in planning, procurement, sourcing, or a similar supply chain role. Experience in electronics manufacturing is advantageous but not required.
