About the Role
We are currently seeking a Purchasing Officer to join our team in New Zealand. Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will play a vital role in optimizing and improving our supply chain operations. This position involves cross-functional coordination with local stakeholders, Engineering, Project Managers, on and off-shore suppliers, and teammates in our operations area.
Your primary focus will be on ensuring cost-effective purchasing to support our manufacturing, with an emphasis on replenishment and New Product Introduction (NPI) purchasing. You will also manage supplier relationships and freight forwarders while assisting with sourcing and improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Issuing purchase orders to both local and international vendors while expediting existing orders.
- Managing contracts and relationships with suppliers to ensure cost-effective delivery in alignment with our Global Supply Chain Strategies.
- Generating forecasts for suppliers to enhance the on-time delivery of long-lead items.
- Conducting planning, forecasting, and inventory reconciliation meetings with key suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Monitoring end-of-line and obsolete parts and providing alternatives in consultation with Engineers and R&D to ensure production continuity.
- Liaising with freight forwarders and suppliers to resolve non-conformances.
- Updating supplier delivery dates as necessary for our in-market warehouses located in New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.
- Participating in supplier capability assessments and vendor evaluation programs, including RFP/RFQ processes when required.
- Maintaining master data in our ERP systems (Microsoft D365 & Epicor) and adjusting safety stock levels and minimum order quantities based on purchasing history and future demand.
- Supporting the Finance team to ensure timely reconciliation of supplier and freight forwarder invoices.
- Seeking out improvement opportunities to optimize departmental costs and efficiencies.
- Collaborating with customer delivery teams to maintain optimal inventory levels for commodity items.
Requirements

Experience
Ideal candidates will have:
- 2 to 5 years of experience in the purchasing and procurement functions within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, particularly D365 and Epicor, is preferred.
- Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements.
- Ideally, 5 or more years of experience in planning, procurement, sourcing, or a similar supply chain role.
- Experience in electronics manufacturing is advantageous but not required.
