About the Role
We are seeking a Purchasing Officer to join our team, reporting directly to the Purchasing Manager in New Zealand. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with various stakeholders including local teams, engineering, project managers, and both onshore and offshore suppliers to enhance and optimize our supply chain operations.
The Purchasing Officer will focus on cost-effective purchasing to support our manufacturing goals, specifically in replenishment and new product introduction (NPI) purchasing. Your responsibilities will also include managing supplier relationships, overseeing freight forwarders, and contributing to sourcing and improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Your key responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Issuing purchase orders to both local and international vendors while expediting existing orders.
- Managing supplier contracts and relationships to ensure cost-effective delivery in alignment with our Global Supply Chain Strategies.
- Generating forecasts for suppliers to improve the on-time delivery of long-lead items.
- Leading planning, forecasting, and inventory reconciliation meetings with key suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Monitoring end-of-line and obsolete parts, providing alternatives in consultation with engineers and R&D to ensure production continuity.
- Collaborating with freight forwarders and suppliers to resolve non-conformances.
- Updating delivery dates with suppliers for shipments into our in-market warehouses in New Zealand, Australia, and the USA.
- Participating in supplier capability assessments and vendor evaluation programs, including requests for proposals and quotations as necessary.
- Maintaining master data in our ERP systems (Microsoft D365 and Epicor) and adjusting safety stock levels and minimum order quantities based on purchasing history and future demand.
- Supporting the finance team to ensure timely reconciliation of invoices from suppliers and freight forwarders.
- Identifying and leveraging improvement opportunities to optimize departmental costs and efficiencies.
- Collaborating with customer delivery teams to maintain optimal inventory levels for commodity items.
Requirements

Experience
The ideal candidate will have:
- 2-5 years of experience in purchasing and procurement within a manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with ERP systems, preferably D365 and Epicor.
- Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) requirements.
- Ideally, 5+ years of experience in planning, procurement, sourcing, or a similar supply chain role.
- Experience in electronics manufacturing is advantageous but not required.
