About the Company
Health New Zealand, Te Whatu Ora - Capital, Coast Hutt Valley District is a leading healthcare provider in the Wellington region. We employ over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff across three hospitals: Wellington Regional Hospital, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital, along with the Kapiti Health Centre. Our organization is dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare services and embraces diversity within our workforce to better serve our community.
About the Role
We are currently seeking innovative and enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrists to join our Intensive Recovery Service (IRS). This role focuses on acute psychiatry and includes both outpatient and inpatient positions, available in full-time or part-time capacities.
The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) serves the lower North Island of New Zealand, covering Wairarapa, Hutt Valley, and Capital and Coast areas. The IRS is dedicated to responding to individuals and their whanau who may require urgent and acute mental health care. Our services are delivered in both community settings and hospitals, tailored to meet the specific needs of each person.
Our team consists of approximately 240 staff members from various clinical and administrative backgrounds, working collaboratively under the guidance of an Operations Manager and Clinical Leader. Te Whare O Matairangi (Wellington Regional Hospital) and Te Whare Ahuru (Hutt Valley) offer 24-hour adult acute inpatient mental health assessment and treatment for adults aged 18 and over, emphasizing recovery and reintegration into the community.
Additionally, our Crisis Resolution Service (CRS) provides a mobile, 24/7 team capable of offering assessment and short-term treatment for individuals experiencing serious mental health crises. The CRS accepts urgent referrals from general practitioners, emergency departments, police, and other community stakeholders in the Hutt Valley and Wellington areas. Our consultation-liaison psychiatry services bridge the gap between general medicine and psychiatry, ensuring comprehensive care for psychological and psychiatric issues affecting medical treatment.
