About the Role
We are excited to announce an opportunity for a Clinical Charge Nurse to join our Neonatal Homecare Service at Starship Child Health. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic and innovative nurse who is eager to lead and drive service outcomes, foster innovation, and promote continuous improvement in quality care.
In this position, you will lead the Neonatal Homecare nursing team, ensuring the provision of ongoing neonatal nursing care for infants and their families after discharge from the hospital until they transfer to primary health services. You will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team in the Newborn Service and build strong relationships with Starship community nursing teams.
Your responsibilities will include advocating for families to care for their infants safely at home and collaborating with clinical charge nurses in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Clinical Midwife Specialists in Whitinga Ora Pepi, and Charge Midwives. This role also involves ongoing collaboration with Well Child and Whanau Ora teams.

About the Team/Service/Location
This Clinical Charge Nurse position is based in the Newborn Service at Starship Child Health in Auckland. Our Neonatal Homecare service specializes in supporting the transition of infants from hospital to home, specifically for babies born very preterm or those requiring continued support after inpatient care in the NICU.
The service offers practical advice and assessments regarding growth and development, feeding difficulties, and oversees ongoing medical care for infants, including low flow oxygen, long-term nasogastric feeding, SBR monitoring, and palliative care.
About You
To succeed in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Registration with the New Zealand Nursing Council and a current Annual Practising Licence
- Expert clinical practice with a minimum of three years' experience post-registration in a tertiary neonatal unit
- A relevant postgraduate qualification or ongoing work towards a Master's Degree
- A strong commitment to professional development, quality care, and family-centered nursing
- A genuine interest in team growth, development, and leadership
Ideally, candidates will have completed or be working towards a postgraduate qualification and have experience in Neonatal Intensive Care as a senior staff nurse.
