About the Role We are seeking a pivotal leader to join our Jobs Leadership Team (JLT). In this role, you will be instrumental in transforming our strategic vision into a clear and actionable technical roadmap. You will help cultivate a culture of technical excellence and elevate our engineering practices to meet market demands and user expectations. Success in this position will be defined by your ability to lead strategically and deliver impactful results. You will play a key role in several areas: As a Strategic Technical Leader, you will own the technical roadmap for Jobs, ensuring alignment with our overall business strategy. Your decisions will help position Trade Me for future innovations and enhance our competitive advantage. You will empower the engineering team to deliver high-quality products that create measurable value, championing the evolution of our engineering practices for quicker and more efficient feature delivery. In addition, you will balance new product development with strategic maintenance, ensuring the long-term reliability and scalability of our technical platforms. You will proactively identify and mitigate risks to maintain platform health. Fostering a high-performing team is essential. You will cultivate an engaged and motivated workforce through coaching and mentorship, building a resilient team capable of overcoming complex challenges. Collaboration will be vital as you establish strong relationships with product, design, data, and other engineering teams. By aligning technical efforts, you will contribute to holistic solutions that drive strategic outcomes for Trade Me. You will advocate for technical excellence and innovation, implementing best-in-class engineering practices, architectural decisions, and creative solutions that enhance our products and capabilities. Additionally, you will manage risks and dependencies effectively, ensuring smooth project delivery while maintaining system integrity. Requirements To excel in this role, you will bring the following qualifications: - Experienced Practitioner: A minimum of 10 years of experience with a deep understanding of architecture, design patterns, and modern engineering practices. You should have a proven track record of delivering complex, strategic technical initiatives in agile environments. - People Leadership: At least 5 years of experience leading, mentoring, and developing medium-to-large engineering teams, successfully achieving strategic objectives while fostering a culture of continuous improvement. - Technical Breadth and Depth: Experience with various technologies and architectures, with the ability to collaborate effectively with technical leaders and PSEs to establish impactful architecture and practices. - Customer-Centric Focus: A passion for creating exceptional customer experiences and understanding the direct impact of technology on user value. - Strategic Mindset: The ability to contribute to the overall strategy, build a clear technical vision for Jobs, and inspire diverse teams while anticipating future needs. - Results-Oriented and Commercial Acumen: An understanding of the business context, translating technical decisions into commercial impact, and delivering measurable value. - Collaborative and Influential: A talent for building alignment with teams and stakeholders, influencing decisions, and driving consensus toward strategic goals. - Strong Communication and Storytelling: The ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to various audiences, influence stakeholders, and celebrate achievements. - Problem-Solving and Decision Making: Strong analytical skills, capable of making sound, data-informed decisions under pressure, even in ambiguous situations.
