About the Role We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic and progressive team at Whanganui Hospital. This permanent position is for 20 hours per week, primarily focused on community-based occupational therapy, with involvement in post-discharge follow-up as necessary. We are looking for a qualified and experienced Occupational Therapist, particularly one who has a keen interest in neurological conditions and rehabilitation. We currently have flexibility in terms of part-time and full-time roles, so we encourage you to reach out if you are interested in joining our team. About the Team/Location Our Occupational Therapy team consists of a small group of professionals with diverse experience and skills. We provide services that cover both inpatient wards and community referrals, addressing a growing demand for occupational therapy services. Our team prioritizes supporting one another to ensure that we deliver the best care possible to those in need within our community. In this role, you will collaborate closely with other Occupational Therapists and Allied Health Therapy Assistants, as well as be part of a larger multi-disciplinary team. Strong time management, leadership, adaptability, and communication skills are essential for success in this position. Our Occupational Therapy department is co-located with Physiotherapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Dietitians, Social Work, and the Community Assessment and Rehabilitation team. We are situated in a newly refurbished environment that includes modern clinician spaces, such as an Occupational Therapy assessment bathroom, kitchen, and general assessment room. You will be based on the Whanganui Campus, a progressive city known for its friendly atmosphere. Whanganui offers a vibrant café culture, excellent schools, and various sporting opportunities, complemented by some of the best weather in the country. With rugged west coast beaches nearby, residents can enjoy year-round surfing, fishing, or walking. Additionally, skiing and hiking opportunities on Mount Ruapehu are just an hour away, making Whanganui an ideal location for a family-friendly lifestyle. About You Our ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes: - Excellent communication skills, both written and oral - A proactive and reliable approach to work - Competency in using basic computer systems required by the hospital - Experience or potential for working in a hospital or healthcare setting - Legal right to work in New Zealand - Physical fitness to perform lifting tasks in accordance with patient handling guidelines - A desire to maintain a high level of knowledge and skill - A Full New Zealand Driver's License - Enjoyment of working alongside other multi-disciplinary team members, utilizing a transdisciplinary team approach - Ability to build strong relationships with clients, their families, and community networks - Flexibility and willingness to learn - Cultural sensitivity How to Apply If you are interested in applying for this position, please click "apply now."
