About the Role
We are currently seeking a Level 2, 3, or 4 NZQA Health and Wellbeing Support Worker to join our team. This position involves providing high-level support to a client in Porirua who has experienced a stroke and requires assistance with daily living activities. We are looking for a well-spoken, positive, and empathetic individual who understands the complexities of challenging behaviors and can offer patient and respectful support, particularly during times when the client may feel unwell or emotionally overwhelmed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to clients with a strong understanding and experience of challenging behaviors
- Assist with personal care, including shower assistance
- Support meal preparation and household tasks such as shopping and collecting medications
- Monitor household consumables and communicate low supplies to the office
- Engage in light indoor gardening activities and care for indoor plants
- Be comfortable using ceiling hoists and power chairs
- Work collaboratively within a team, demonstrating good communication and collaboration skills
- Maintain a non-judgmental attitude and tolerance for strong language
- Be available for morning and late afternoon shifts, with occasional overnight stays
Requirements
- Consistent and long-term availability to ensure continuity for our clients
- Minimum Level 2 Health and Wellbeing certificate or equivalent
- A current, clean full driver’s license
- Legal right to work in New Zealand
- Previous experience as a caregiver or support worker with similar clients
- Reliable, punctual, honest, and caring demeanor
- Understanding of neurological disorders is beneficial
- Ability to follow directions and carry out tasks independently
