About the Role
We are currently seeking a dedicated medical professional for a permanent, full-time position at Southland Hospital. This role offers a competitive salary band C ranging from $127,338 to $194,820, along with KiwiSaver benefits. The position includes a fantastic opportunity for 12 months of ACEM training, which includes TS4 accreditation.
You will work in a dynamic environment where all major specialties are available on-site. The role offers a dedicated six-month Anaesthetics term for emergency department trainees, and our fellowship exam pass rate has been an impressive four out of four over the past five years. Additionally, we provide supervision for EM diploma and certificate programs, with five certificate graduates in the past three years.
You will benefit from four hours of protected teaching time each week, led by consultants, and 15 hours of direct supervision from FACEM on the floor each day. Rotations to accredited specialty inpatient units are available, including a neonatal unit in pediatrics. This is a hands-on role where you will take ownership of your patients and procedures.
This position is governed by the New Zealand Resident Doctors' Association and the Collective Agreement with Te Whatu Ora (Health New Zealand), as well as the Specialty Trainees of New Zealand (STONZ) Collective Agreement.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will join a close-knit team consisting of 9 FACEMs, 10 Registrars, 2 Medical Officers of Special Scale (MOSS), and 7 Senior House Officers. Together, we manage over 39,000 patients annually, with 21% of those patients being pediatric cases. Our case mix includes a significant volume of major trauma cases.

About You
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience, including at least six months of experience in the emergency department. You must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand or eligible for general or provisional general registration. It is a requirement of the Medical Council that your qualifications be approved through the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (EPIC).
