Description
About the Company
Southland Hospital is dedicated to providing exceptional patient care while fostering the development of our Registrars. We strive to create an environment that allows for the nurturing of various subspecialty interests across a wide range of medical specialties. Our team is committed to high-quality teaching and delivering patient-focused care, with thousands of inpatient and outpatient encounters each year.
About the Role
As part of our General Medicine service, you will work alongside a fully staffed team of trained General Physicians, many of whom hold qualifications in various subspecialties. This position offers exposure to a diverse range of medical conditions, as medical patients are admitted to general medicine.
You will have the opportunity to engage in ambulatory work within onsite subspecialties, which include Cardiology, Respiratory, Endocrinology, Nephrology, and Gastroenterology. Our team provides care for acutely unwell patients, including those requiring ICU admission. This allows advanced trainees to fulfill their high acuity training requirements within the general medicine setting at Southland, rather than needing to undertake a separate high acuity rotation.
We are situated within a short drive of some of New Zealand's most renowned national parks and ski fields, all amidst stunning coastal landscapes. Our environment is clinically challenging yet supportive, designed for you to thrive in your medical career.
About You
The ideal candidate for this role will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
- Current registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand, or eligibility for general or provisional general registration. You can verify your eligibility by visiting the Council's website.
- While we welcome applications from those with Medical Registrar experience, we also encourage applications from RMOs with a minimum of one year's post-qualification experience and good exposure to general medical rotations.
- It is a requirement of the Medical Council of New Zealand that qualifications be verified through EPIC. If you are committed to working in New Zealand, we recommend starting this process promptly to ensure timely registration.
Benefits
We offer a range of benefits to our team members, including:
- Free meals while on duty
- Subsidised gym membership and discounted health insurance
- Access to various retail discounts
- Availability of staff holiday homes in Fiordland and Central Otago
- Free parking while on duty
