About the Role
Te Puriri o Te Ora, the northern regional cancer and blood service located in Te Toka Tumai, is seeking a Nurse Specialist in Maori Health. In this role, you will combine your clinical nursing expertise with a strong advocacy for Maori health to support whanau Maori throughout their cancer care journey.
You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary environment to identify and eliminate systemic barriers, influence culturally safe practices, and implement patient and whanau-centric models of care. Your responsibilities will include providing direct nursing care as appropriate, coordinating care, navigating the health system, collaborating with community providers, and building capability across the workforce.
As a leader in our team, you will integrate Tikanga Maori into your practice while mentoring others to address the holistic needs of whanau Maori. Additionally, you will contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives focused on health equity.

About You
We are looking for someone who is passionate about improving Maori health outcomes and is comfortable navigating both clinical and cultural landscapes. To succeed in this role, you will need:
- Registration as a New Zealand Nurse with a current Annual Practicing Certificate
- A minimum of five years of nursing experience
- Whakapapa Maori and/or a strong commitment to Maori health equity
- An understanding of Maori models of health and the ability to incorporate Tikanga Maori into your practice
- Experience working independently as well as collaboratively within clinical teams
- A willingness to engage in learning te reo Maori and Te Ao Maori if you have not already begun this journey
