    Description

About the Company At Trade Me, we are dedicated to connecting New Zealanders to help them create the lives they aspire to lead. Whether it’s finding a home, securing a job, purchasing a car, or even discovering that perfect bedside table, we strive to be the first choice for Kiwis in their search for solutions. Our vision is to be the go-to platform for all things trade in New Zealand. About the Role We are currently looking for two motivated Lead Software Engineers to join our dynamic Platforms team in permanent positions. In this pivotal role, you will help shape our technical direction and mentor a talented group of engineers. What You Can Expect From This Role In this position, you will provide direct support to the Platforms team and collaborate on key projects. You will be an integral member of our supportive engineering community, contributing to the long-term vision for the Koru team to ensure alignment with our organizational strategies. Your responsibilities will include advocating for and implementing engineering best practices, including coding standards, design principles, testing methodologies, and development workflows. You will work closely with Principal Software Engineers and Technical Product Owners to develop and execute technical roadmaps, as well as communicate technical innovations effectively with product development teams. Additionally, you will contribute to our lightweight governance process by drafting and implementing guidelines and technical documentation. Mentorship is also a key aspect of this role, as you will guide junior engineers and help them progress in their careers. You will be involved in planning, developing, testing, and releasing complex solutions while managing technical debt in collaboration with the Technical Product Owner. Finally, you will implement and maintain plans for your platform’s Service Level Objectives (SLOs). Requirements We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications: - A minimum of 5 years of experience in similar development roles. - Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies is preferred, but not required. - A deep understanding of software development principles, architecture, design patterns, and modern technologies. - Strong technical knowledge for designing scalable, reliable, and maintainable applications. - Proven ability to mentor and support junior engineers in their professional growth. - Effective communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. - Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, especially under tight deadlines. - Openness to adopting new tools and methodologies to enhance our platform's capabilities. - Practical working knowledge of technologies and practices pertinent to Trade Me's technical strategy. Our Commitment to Diversity At Trade Me, we believe that diversity drives progress. To address the existing inequality for women in technical leadership, we will prioritize women when filling this role. The successful candidate must meet the core requirements, and we will also consider a broader range of factors, including skills, experience, future potential, and the unique contributions you can bring to our team. We understand that some candidates may hesitate to apply if they feel they do not meet every qualification. If this opportunity excites you, we encourage you to submit your resume along with a brief cover note explaining your interest in the position. Benefits We believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive work environment where our team members can thrive. Here are some benefits we offer: - Flexible work options including part-time work, job sharing, and flexible hours to promote a healthy work-life balance. - A home office setup and utilities allowance to support remote work. - Comprehensive parental leave policies for families. - Dedicated 10% of your time for learning and development opportunities. - Access to wellness resources to prioritize your physical and mental wellbeing. - A strong social culture, including company-sponsored lunches, regular social events, annual awards, employee networking groups, and social sports clubs. Trade Me is an INZ accredited employer, and we truly value diversity while promoting a flexible workplace where everyone is encouraged to reach their full potential.
