About the Role
We are seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Scientist in Microbiology to join our esteemed team at Middlemore Hospital. This permanent position involves working 80 hours per fortnight. We are particularly interested in candidates who are New Zealand Registered Medical Laboratory Scientists with current or recent experience in medical microbiology. However, we are also open to applications from trainee scientists, as we provide full training for the right candidates.
In this role, you will work in our routine microbiology laboratory and will have the opportunity to engage in infectious molecular diagnostics, TB, and mycology. Your contributions will be vital in addressing the complex health needs of our community.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will collaborate with a diverse group of medical, scientific, technical, and administrative professionals to deliver high-quality services to our community. The variety and complexity of samples and clinical presentations will provide you with a stimulating work environment. We are committed to supporting your professional growth through in-house training and mentorship, as well as internal and external continuing professional development opportunities.
Our microbiology department is well-equipped with advanced microbiological technology, including a range of molecular platforms. Located on-site at the Middlemore campus, our laboratory offers a 24-hour service for Middlemore and Kidz First Hospitals, as well as the Manukau Health Park. Middlemore Hospital is one of the busiest healthcare facilities in New Zealand, with a high-demand emergency department and birthing unit. Our department is also involved in teaching and collaborates closely with the Infection Prevention Control service and the Infectious Diseases department.
About You
To be successful in this role, you should ideally possess the following qualifications and skills:
- Full or Provisional Registration as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the Medical Science Council of New Zealand
- A minimum of two years of experience in a diagnostic medical microbiology laboratory
- A current Annual Practising Certificate
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities
