About the Company
At Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora, we are dedicated to providing exceptional healthcare services to all New Zealanders. Our organization is rooted in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and we strive to create a health system that is inclusive and equitable. As part of our commitment, we welcome a diverse workforce that reflects the communities we serve.
About the Role
We are seeking a New Zealand Registered Medical Laboratory Technician with current or recent experience in Medical Microbiology, or a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (microbiology), to join our specimen processing team on a full-time, permanent basis.

About the Team/Service/Location

The role will present challenges due to the volume, complexity, and variety of samples and clinical presentations. We are committed to supporting your growth and development through in-house training and mentorship, as well as providing ongoing professional development opportunities.
Our laboratory employs both routine manual and automated pre-analytical and analytical techniques, utilizing the latest technology, including specimen processing, urinalysis, and various molecular platforms. The Microbiology department is located on-site at the Middlemore campus, offering a 24-hour service to Middlemore Hospital, Kidz First Hospitals, and the Manukau Health Park. Our facility serves a population with complex health needs and provides national and regional services, including the National Burns Unit, plastic surgery, and spinal rehabilitation. Middlemore Hospital is known for having one of the busiest emergency departments and birthing units in New Zealand.
The Microbiology department also plays a vital role in teaching technical and medical staff, maintaining close relationships with the Infection Prevention Control service and the Infectious Diseases department.
