About the Role
In the role of Steel Fixer, you will be responsible for positioning and securing steel bars, rods, cables, or mesh within concrete forms. Your work will involve the use of various tools, including fasteners, rod bending machines, blowtorches, and hand tools.
Key responsibilities include:
- Positioning and fastening steel rods according to blueprints using wire and pliers.
- Determining the quantities, sizes, shapes, and locations of reinforcing rods based on blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
- Placing blocks under rebar to ensure proper height during floor reinforcement.
- Cutting rods to specified lengths using metal shears, hacksaws, bar cutters, or acetylene torches.
- Cutting and fitting wire mesh or fabric, and positioning them in concrete for reinforcement.
- Bending steel rods using hand tools or bending machines, and welding them with arc-welding equipment.
- Performing any other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, we prefer candidates with:
- A minimum of one year of relevant experience in steel fixing or an equivalent qualification at NZQF level 2 or 3.
- Strong time management skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
- A friendly demeanor with excellent work ethic.
- A willingness to learn and develop skills within the industry.
- A solid understanding of health and safety procedures.
- Reliability and a strong work ethic.
Benefits
We offer competitive pay ranging from a minimum of $26 per hour to a maximum of $40 per hour, depending on experience.
Our work guarantees a minimum of 30 hours per week.
You may be required to travel to various locations across New Zealand, including Auckland, Northland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Taranaki, Gisborne, Whanganui-Manawatu, Wellington, Marlborough, Nelson-Tasman, Canterbury, West Coast, Otago, and Southland.
This role is a permanent, full-time position.
