Description
Location: Wellington Regional Hospital - Mein St
Contract: Permanent, Full Time and Part Time (0.6-1 FTE)
About the Company
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. We are focused on building a health system that emphasizes partnership, equity, sustainability, and excellence through integration and collaboration. Our approach prioritizes whanau-centered care, ensuring that we meet the diverse needs of our communities.
About the Role
We are excited to announce two new positions within our service at Nga Tai Oranga, The Healing Tides. Our small, multi-disciplinary team is based in Newtown, Wellington. This diverse role involves providing therapies, supervision, and consultations while also teaching mental health clinicians about working with tangata whaiora who experience severe distress intolerance, emotional dysregulation, and relationship difficulties. We often support individuals conceptualized as having complex PTSD and/or borderline personality disorder.
In this role, you will provide consultation, supervision, and advice to mental health service teams, focusing on emotion regulation skills, risk formulation, and person-centered compassionate approaches. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to our dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) program as a therapist.
About the Team/Service/Location
Our team consists of seven dedicated clinicians, and we are expanding to better meet the needs of those we serve. We are passionate about advocating for tangata whaiora facing significant challenges with emotion regulation, self-identity, and relational capacities. Many individuals in this group are marginalized, and we are committed to providing compassionate, evidence-informed treatments.
We foster a collaborative environment where open communication and mutual support are paramount. We understand that to provide effective therapies, we must prioritize our own well-being. Our team leader regularly meets with staff to offer guidance and support, and we frequently work in pairs during teaching and consultations.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, enjoy teamwork, and be capable of providing compassionate formulations for the people we support.
Key qualifications include:
1. Knowledge, understanding, and experience in working with and treating tangata whaiora who struggle with severe distress intolerance, emotional dysregulation, and relationship issues.
2. Experience in evidence-based therapies relevant to this population, including familiarity with clinically indicated risk-taking.
While we prefer to hire an experienced clinician due to the complex nature of the cases we handle, we are also open to considering candidates who are passionate about our work and may have less experience. We are committed to providing training opportunities, support, and supervision to ensure a successful placement.
We welcome applications from individuals of all gender identities, ages, ethnicities, sexual orientations, disabilities, and religions, including those with lived experience of mental distress. We are open to both full-time and part-time applicants (0.6 FTE - 1.0 FTE).
