    About the Company At Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington, we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for our students. As part of our dedication to student wellbeing, we are currently seeking an experienced mental health practitioner to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis. About the Role The Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) plays a crucial role in supporting the work of clinicians at Mauri Ora – Student Health and Counselling, as well as collaborating with other university staff. Your main responsibility will be to manage students identified as being at risk and develop effective responses to their needs. This position involves working with students who may be experiencing mental health challenges, exhibiting concerning or disruptive behaviors, or being at risk of suicide. The MHC provides comprehensive risk assessments, brief counseling, and crisis management, while also coordinating recovery plans with university partners, primary care, and secondary mental health services. Additionally, you will offer consultation and guidance within the university community and contribute to preventative programs aimed at enhancing student welfare and safety. Requirements To be considered for this role, you must possess the following qualifications and experience: - A University Degree or postgraduate qualification in mental health or an allied health discipline such as Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, or Psychology. - Registration as a Health Professional under the Health Practitioner Competence Assurance Act 2003 or as a Registered Social Worker under the Social Worker Legislation Act 2019, along with a current practicing certificate in New Zealand. - Proven experience in mental health, particularly working with diverse backgrounds and cultures, with a focus on young adults. - An interest in and experience working with Māori and Pasifika students, utilizing cultural models of wellbeing. Ideally, you will also have: - Experience providing consultation to a diverse range of partners in both clinical and non-clinical settings. - A background in collaborative and multidisciplinary care and case coordination. - Experience in mental health assessment and outreach services. - Skills in delivering mental health promotion and preventative services. - Proficiency in conducting holistic mental health assessments and employing various therapeutic approaches, including solution-focused and brief models of counseling. - A non-judgmental and flexible therapeutic style that is sensitive to cultural, religious, gender, and sexual orientation differences. - Familiarity with the tertiary education sector and an understanding of the Pastoral Care of Tertiary and International Learners Code of Practice. - Competence with the Microsoft Windows computer desktop environment.
