We are dedicated to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ensuring that our partnership with Māori is central to all our conversations.
Canterbury Health Laboratories (CHL) serves as a Te Whatu Ora Pathology service provider and is one of two tertiary laboratories in New Zealand. We collaborate with a diverse range of partners across health and other sectors at local, regional, national, and international levels. Our team at CHL includes pathologists supported by a wide array of scientific officers, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, and support staff. Together, we work to deliver a comprehensive range of core and specialist pathology services to our communities.
About the Role
We are currently looking for a medically qualified Chemical Pathologist to join our team, which includes three Chemical Pathologists and a registrar.
Canterbury Health Laboratories operates as a public hospital laboratory in support of Christchurch Hospital, the tertiary hospital for Te Waipounamu (New Zealand's South Island). We offer a 24/7 core laboratory service for the hospital and urgent community services, along with specialist testing for regional and national services. Our laboratory has a strong track record in test development and research involvement. Our specialist services encompass a broad spectrum of biochemistry testing, including toxicology, endocrine, metabolic, and protein biomarkers. We utilize a variety of advanced instruments, such as MS/MS, Q-TOF, TOF, and ICP-MS. Additionally, we play a key role in delivering a national antenatal screening program and maintain accreditation to ISO 15189. Our partnership with the University of Otago allows us to provide biochemistry teaching for 4th and 5th year medical students, and we are also accredited for training by the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA).
As a Chemical Pathologist at Canterbury Health Laboratories, your responsibilities will include reporting chemical pathology tests, validating and implementing new tests, mentoring and training biochemistry scientific staff, and participating in clinical governance, as permitted by your scope of practice.
