    Description

About the Company Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is committed to building a healthcare system that serves all New Zealanders, grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. We strive to provide excellent healthcare services and are dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce. About the Role We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated General Cardiologist to join our team and provide both inpatient and outpatient cardiology care across the Northland region. This position is based in Whangarei, with responsibilities that may include travel to our rural hospitals as needed. Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, offering secondary care services throughout the region and supported by our rural facilities in Dargaville, Bay of Islands, and Kaitaia. You will work alongside Advanced Trainees, Registrars, Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists, all of whom play vital roles in delivering cardiology services. Our facility features an on-site cardiac catheter lab for coronary interventions, cardiac MRI, cardiac CT, and transthoracic echocardiograms, including TOE and stress echoes. We also have well-developed heart failure and cardiac rehabilitation services. While pacing and device clinics are based in Whangarei, implant procedures currently take place in Auckland. A key priority for our cardiology service is to take responsibility for inpatient care, and we require on-call support for this aspect of the role. As a General Cardiologist, you will join a small, close-knit team that is dedicated to patient care. You will collaborate with the Clinical Lead to ensure your skills and knowledge continue to develop. We are looking for a motivated team player who is patient-focused and eager to contribute to the growth of our cardiology services. A clinical trial center has recently been established in Whangarei, providing opportunities for involvement in local clinical research. This role allows you to make meaningful decisions and improve access to specialist cardiac care for a region that has historically been underserved. About the Location Whangarei, located in the "winterless north," boasts a warm climate, excellent schools, affordable housing, and picturesque coastal areas that offer a variety of recreational activities. Our location is conveniently situated just a two-hour drive or a 25-minute flight from Auckland, New Zealand's international hub. To learn more about our stunning location, please explore our resources on living and working in Northland. About You To be considered for this role, you must possess or be eligible for specialist registration (or locum tenens) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) in an Internal Medicine Vocational scope of practice. General cardiology experience and competency in echocardiography, including TOE, are essential. Candidates with pacemaker implant skills and knowledge are encouraged to apply, as this would be advantageous. We particularly welcome recent FRACP NZ trainees to apply. If you are currently overseas or not yet registered, we are here to assist you with the application process to obtain MCNZ registration.
