About the Role
We are seeking a Customer Service Associate who will play a vital role in the success of our stores. This position is focused on delivering exceptional service to both our customers and donors, fostering repeat visits, and creating a welcoming environment.
In this dynamic role, you will engage in various tasks that may include greeting customers, managing donations, and assisting in the stock processing area. We value a team-oriented approach, and collaboration with colleagues is essential to achieve our collective goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding customer service to both customers and donors.
- Receive, sort, price, and merchandise donated goods effectively.
- Process sales transactions and manage cash handling with accuracy and efficiency, including daily cash-ups.
- Ensure the store is well-presented, adequately stocked, and maintained in a tidy condition.
- Adhere to policies and standard operating procedures, including health and safety regulations and audit controls.
- Foster a positive team culture and contribute to the general operations of the Family Stores as needed.
Person Specification
- Strong customer service skills with sound judgment and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations when necessary.
- Resilient, positive, and people-oriented team player with a natural ability to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Physically fit and capable of regular lifting, as this is a daily requirement of the role.
- Proficient in using various retail and communication technologies, such as point-of-sale systems and tablets.
- Self-managing and able to prioritize tasks effectively, even under pressure.
- Clear communicator, both verbally and in writing.
- Ethical in approach, demonstrating respect, honesty, and transparency to build trust within the Family Stores, in alignment with the values of The Salvation Army.
- Comfortable working within established procedures while applying sound judgment when necessary.
- Must have the legal right to work in New Zealand. Employment offers are contingent upon a satisfactory Ministry of Justice clearance/police check.

Hours of Work
This is a casual role primarily for holiday cover, and the successful candidate should be available to work on Saturdays. Please note that Family Stores may operate on public holidays. The position may require a varied work schedule from Monday to Saturday.
The hourly rate for this role is $28.95.
