About the Role
We are looking for a Catering Laundry Instructor to join our team at Rimutaka Men's Prison. This position offers a unique opportunity to combine your mentoring skills with your passion for cooking and catering. As part of the Offender Employment initiative, you will play a vital role in helping the men we manage develop skills and gain work experience that will enhance their employability upon release.
In this diverse role, you will supervise and provide practical training in a commercial kitchen environment. Your responsibilities will include general meal preparation, delivery, and corporate catering, as well as facilitating the achievement of NZQA qualifications through the ServiceIQ Industry Training Organisation. By instilling good working habits, you will contribute to the rehabilitation and reintegration of our participants. Additionally, you will offer support to the Laundry operation as part of the wider Internal Services Team as needed.
Requirements
We are seeking candidates who possess the following qualifications and skills:
- A proven passion and experience in the catering industry at a professional level
- Strong health and safety practices
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to motivate and develop individuals in a team setting
- Relevant trade qualifications, such as London City Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or equivalent
- Experience as an adult educator or NZQA Assessor (4098) is preferred
- A full driver’s license and First Aid Certificate
This position requires a commitment to a rostered shift schedule of 80 hours per fortnight. Additionally, availability for public holidays and the potential for overtime or call-outs may be required.
As an instructor, you will hold the same classification as Correction Officers and will complete the same initial training courses. Comprehensive training, including an introduction to corrections and extensive on-site training at Rimutaka Prison, will be provided to the successful candidate.
Please note that all candidates must undergo a full disclosure criminal history check, which is exempt from the Clean Slate Act. This means that you must declare all offenses, regardless of when they occurred.
Benefits
The starting salary for this position is $72,514 per annum.
