Description
About the Company
Tradestaff Global is excited to invite expressions of interest for the position of Excavator Operator at McMurdo Station in Antarctica for the Summer season of 2025/26. This unique opportunity allows you to work in one of the most remote and breathtaking locations in the world.
About the Role
We are seeking licensed and experienced Excavator Operators for deployments expected from approximately October 2025 to March 2026. These roles require a strong work ethic and a willingness to work as part of a team in challenging conditions. You will operate 30-50T excavators on a large commercial construction project in a high-risk environment.
In addition to operating heavy machinery, you will be expected to contribute to general site work, demonstrating a collaborative spirit and a commitment to safety. Experience with dozers, loaders, or rollers is a significant advantage for this position.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, you need to meet the following requirements:
- Hold WTR and a Class 2 Licence.
- Have proven experience operating large excavators in civil, roading, or construction environments.
- Provide an up-to-date CV that details machine sizes, brands, operating time, and examples of projects you have worked on.
Please note that due to travel restrictions, only New Zealand and US Citizens with New Zealand or US passports who are currently and permanently residing in New Zealand can apply.
Additionally, you must be willing to receive vaccinations for Flu, Tdap, and MMR. These positions are not “fly in fly out” roles; you will be on-site for an extended period, working long hours, six days a week.
Candidates must also pass medical and dental checks, security clearance, and a pre-employment drug and alcohol test. A clean criminal record is required, and you should be prepared for a lengthy application process, demonstrating patience throughout.
Travel to Tauranga for medical and dental exams is necessary, but we will cover testing and flights if you are coming from outside the Bay of Plenty.
Benefits
We offer a competitive compensation package, including:
- Flights provided from any major New Zealand airport.
- Food, shared accommodation, and travel insurance during your deployment.
- A pay rate of $73.64 per hour on a contract basis, with payment issued fortnightly in NZD for 54 hours a week.
- All personal protective equipment (PPE) will be supplied.
This is hard work, but the rewards include a substantial income, opportunities to save, invaluable experience, and the chance to forge lasting friendships. If this extraordinary opportunity excites you, we encourage you to apply.
