About the Role We are excited to offer a vital role that supports the Council's democratic and governance processes. In this position, you will work closely with our Executive Leadership Team, providing expert advice, support, and guidance to elected members, Council staff, and community members. This is an exciting time to join us, as we approach local government elections scheduled for October this year. Your responsibilities will include: - Providing expert governance support, advice, and associated services to elected members, the Council and its committees, the Executive Leadership Team, Council officers, and the public. - Assisting with the administration of the Council's elections. - Delivering training to Council officers to ensure adherence to governance best practices. - Facilitating a civics and democracy participation program within our community. About You We are looking for someone with a relevant tertiary qualification in political science or law, who is passionate about contributing to Porirua City. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in our community. To be successful, you should demonstrate: - Excellent knowledge and understanding of the local government legislative environment, processes, and regulations. - A high degree of political acumen and the ability to work with, advise, and influence a diverse range of stakeholders. - Experience in a similar governance advisor role. - Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality. - Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal. - The ability to engage effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, both internally and within the community.
